FRANK OCEAN // NOSTALGIA,ULTRA

After having got the 60-track mixtape 'The Lonny Breaux' by Frank Ocean, I recently went on to get his earlier-released 'Nostalgia,Ultra' which came out through his Tumblr this summer, featuring the tracks he is more well known for (see 'Swim Good' & 'Novacane'). The mixtape is a mix of his pop-esque and hip hop style and his sounds are more diverse in this mixtape and I feel really show off his talent as an artist. This mixtape has reached fame in the likes of featuring in the prestigious Rolling Stone as number 25 in the top '50 Best Albums of 2011', number 5 in TIME magazine's 'The Top 10 Everything of 2011' (albums section) and number three in The Guardian's 'Best Albums of 2011' and I can definitely see why. This mixtape is without a doubt a must have from 2011.
Frank Ocean has also been nominated as one of 15 artists in the BBC's 'Sound of 2012' alongside such names as ASAP Rocky and Flux Pavilion. The winner and top 5 will be revealed in January..

KHAT

Just downloaded the mixtape 'Mobbin' by Khat. Its like an explosion of sounds, beats, electronics, hip hop and dubstep vibes mashed up and working in a strangely perfect way with eachother. Really unique sounds right here. Refreshing music. Mixtapes can be downloaded from the tumblr link below.

OMARI SHAKIR

Part of the XO gang and associated with The Weeknd & DropxLife comes Omari Shakir. Love the vibes in his tracks. 'Nonchalant' is the newest track, having been uploaded on November 30th not to mention his other tracks are definitely worth checking out, 'Different' & 'Like A Book'. With The Weeknd gaining ever increasing popularity especially at the moment, expect big things from the XO crew from here on, watch this space..

WASHED OUT

Ernest Greene, more well known as Washed Out is one of the most well known and influencial names in chillwave music. Taking inspiration from hip hop music, his sound is chillwave mixed with dream-pop and hypnagogic pop to create a truly unique take on this genre. With 80's pop percussion combined with synths slowed to a laid back pace with a handful of lazy riffs and hazy vocals creates the perfect chilled out sounds. Released via Mexican Summer was Washed Out's second EP 'Life of Leisure' which included the popular tracks 'Feel It All Around' & 'Hold Out' in 2009 and this year he released his debut album 'Within And Without' on July 12th via Sub Pop Records. The album is available to buy at most music stores and 'Life Of Leisure' can be downloaded via Mediafire here

HIDE AND SEEK

A beautiful remix of Imogen Heap's 'Hide And Seek' (famously known for being sampled in Jason Derulo's track 'Watcha Say') by Enigma and put to Fatboy Slim's video for the track 'Bird Of Prey' which fits perfectly with this serene dubstep remix.

SUMMER VIBES// SLICK D

Summer Vibes EP from SLik d is something i've had on a lot at the moment, simply catchy, chilled out tracks, reminds me so much of summer. Positive vibes. Also check out 'High Vibes' and 'SunShine' another couple of projects by him which I also love.

APORIA: IN THESE §TREETS

M∆DE IN HEIGHTS. Following 'Winter Pigeons' released in December of last year, comes the 11 track album 'APORIA: IN THESE §TREETS' released this month. Carrying on from Winter Pigeons they keep their signature organic sounding beats and trip hop/chillstep vibe yet this new album seems to be a lot lighter including five instrumental tracks and some more uptempo beats in contrast to quite a lot of dark undertones and heavier drums scattered throughout the previous album. Another refreshing album to listen to and a truly unique sound.

TERIUS NASH // 1977

I downloaded The-Dream's free ten track album '1977' earlier this week and I honestly can't get enough of it. With the likes of The Weeknd & Frank Ocean having been compared to him, I'm hooked on his voice, much like Abel & Frank's. Album has been stuck on repeat..

ASOS // WINTER

Trend report. ASOS have published 8 key trends for this fall, with a huge variety of key statement pieces to be desired for this winter. Following through from this summer, where aztec print surfaced on cotton vest tops and maxi dresses, this is now moving through onto leggings and jumpers and even coats, see asos coats online for grey aztec jacket.
We're leaving the bright summer colours behind and moving into the mexican and indian inspired tans, oranges and dark blue shades for the native prints, yet animal prints are also still popular with hints leopard print mixed in with the classic fur coats seen every winter. Leading onto the power jumper trend including big slouchy knits, motifs, block colour and over-detailing being seen on the catwalk this winter.
Block colours are not only playing a part in knitwear but also key statement pieces like coats and dresses, with bold colours like scarlet, turquoise-blue and mustard to name a few evolving on simple a-line dresses and boxy coats, with statement coats being a main trend and barbour being a consistantly classic trend for autumn and winter for men and women alike and coinciding with the heritage trend.
Moving with the colour trend we go onto the 'mod squad' trend which reflects the 60's look of tunic dresses, again boxy coats and knee high boots, with a lot of pieces being tailored yet feminine. Staying with the vintage styles, 'L.A Vintage' is also another trend this fall with smart vintage pieces mixed in with 70s bohemia, think thrifted pieces.
Heritige and menswear has also inspired the catwalk this winter with crombies, brogues, tweed, herringbone, military and teddy boy style still present. Yet  with using simple pencil skirts, pussy bow shirts, chiffon material, ruffles and leather, the style can be kept effortlessly sexy, with all of these keeping the wardrobe feminine and all being seen on the catwalk with Louis Vuitton and Mugler showing off their leather filled 'fetish' style collections and Miu Miu and Nina Ricci introducing what ASOS called 'ladylike chic'.
Some simple winter favourites from the new arrivals at ASOS

THE NUMBER 23

The highly anticipated 'The Number 23' mixtape was dropped by Neako earlier today and is available to download from DatPiff here. The 23 track mixtape includes tracks featuring the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J and Skeme to name a few. With the single LVLYSL having been released and gained such a positive response, fans expectations were high and i think the album does deliver, also with a nice mix of laid back beats and interludes throughout. I'm also in love with the artwork. Definitely worth a listen.

TFHOUSE//SUPERIOR TASTE

Superior Taste is the latest mixtape written and produced from Toronto's 'TFHOUSE'. The mixtape was released in April of this year and has ten tracks. The mixtape combines a mixture of laid back guitar riffs, electronic loops, chilled out beats and silky smooth vocals from Dana, who features in the tracks 'For Life' and 'So Dope' and sampling some 80's vibes in the likes of such tracks like 'Daytime'. The mixtape also features, on the lead single 'Fade' (listen below) the beautifully haunting vocals in the chorus courtesy of Devin Wilson of Bravestation. Refreshing sounds.

ALLXLEGENDS MIXTAPE

"I wish everyone would shut the fuck up, close their eyes, and dance. Not because they're drunk. Not because they're being filmed. And not because they wanna get laid tonight. Dance because it feels good. Dance because it feels right. And dance because tomorrow we'll never dance again."

"Sitting by the window in a cafe small and sweet, deeply hidden in the heart of a beautiful town that could easily be mistaken for Shambala, I hold my brown ceramic mug with both hands and sip slowly of its contents, a tea brewed from the root barks of the Amazon and calmly gaze into God's face. Then, I begin to lose my mind."

DENIM

Frank Ocean's 'Denim' (Prod. Brian Kennedy) is the 8th track from his 'The Lonny Breaux Collection'

Vans California Era 45

Pretty much in love with the Era 45 CA from Vans' California Holiday collection 2010 collection. The styles come in various multi tonal styles, red & white and red & black, the tan and dark turquoise shade on the upper leather of this style makes them a perfect autumn sneaker.

CARPOOL DUMMY.

From LA's 'The Gaslamp Killer' a.k.a DJ William Bensussen's EP 'Death Gate' released last year via the Brainfeeder label. Experimental electronic, dubstep, hip hop.

INNERPARTYSYSTEM

I  really forgot how much i love this band. Their self titled album, released in September 2008 is such a good album and they have a sound like no one else. Although i didn't get round to seeing them at Wakestock this year, they are said to be known for their light shows and lazers at concerts and also for their creative and sometimes contraversial videos. Sadly, now they have decided to go on an indefinite hiatus..

'New Poetry' off their album 'Innerpartysystem'

'This Empty Love' off the same album

'Not Getting Any Better' off their EP 'Never Be Content' released in February this year.

'American Trash' off the same EP

WHERE YOU SHOULD BE

London raised dubstep producer Skream released this track featuring Sam Frank on May 16th via Tempa , taken off  the album 'Outside The Box' , his second album after his debut 'Skream!' released in 2006, this is his second solo album but worked alongside Benga and Artwork for the release of Magnetic Man's self titled debut album in October of last year. This is one of two singles released from the second album, the other being 'Listenin' To The Records On My Wall'. With as Annie Mac (BBCR1) described 'heartbreaking' chord changes and Skream's ever laid back- chilled out, electronic dubstep vibe, its another clean track from him, I can't get enough of this song. I highly recommend the album, which also features collabs with La Roux and Murs.

LYDIA

An Indie rock band from Arizona, with powerful melodies beautiful lyrics and the haunting vocals of  Leighton Antelman they create a truly unique sound from many other labeled 'indie rock' bands around. Their debut album 'This December; It's One More and I'm Free' was released on on September 27, 2005 via Hourzero Records with popular songs like 'A Camera Lens and Careful Days' being re-recorded on their Hotel Sessions EP in 2009. One of my favourite indie rock albums has to be 'Illuminate', Lydia's second album, you can really feel the emotion in the tracks and the dreamy guitars and Leighton's echoing vocals are just incredible. 'Illuminate' is available to buy at most major  music stores. Personal favourites off the album;
